How shocked would you be if I told you that the majority of America is in prison? I was flabbergasted when God laid this thought on my mind. What I am talking about is 3 different kinds of prisons. We have structural prisons, physical prisons, as well as emotional prisons. However, there are three keys to gaining your freedom. No matter the type of prison that you find yourself in, God will reveal the keys for you to get permanently released.
It is important to realize that the prisons that you are in are of the world or the mind, not of God. You came to be in these prisons by decisions. Either those of your making or decisions made by others. But no matter, you came by them by birth, by illness, or by tragedy. So let’s examine and see which type of prison that you find yourself in.
I. The Structural Prison
The first prison that I want to tell you about is the Structural prison. If you have committed a crime, you know what I am talking about. Like it or not, it was your actions that got you there in the first place. Now I understand that some are in prison because they are falsely accused. My prayer is no one there is ever put to death for a crime they did not commit. Yet here is the thing Church, you can still have your freedom and be in prison.
The second type of structural prison is your home. We are living through a pandemic now, and fear has held most America captive for a while now. But you could also be held captive due to an incident that has happened to you. Such as rape, abuse, or some other emotional problem that causes you to isolate yourself.
II. The Physical Prison
In contrast to structural prison, there is physical prison. Although this may be a strange statement, we might find ourselves in this prison by no fault of our own. I am talking about when we are in the prison of our own bodies. I know this one all too well. Held captive due to devastating illnesses or a tragedy. Unless God intercedes, there is no escape from it until we are called away to meet Jesus in the sky.
On the positive side, we can still be free in the Name of Jesus. I am, and some of you may be forever trapped in our twisted and mangled bodies. The pain that we feel can take a terrible toll on our bodies. I have to admit at times, the pain leaves me feeling hopeless and helpless because there is nothing I can do. I am sure that some of you feel the same way. It seems I spend more time fighting this painful arthritis then I do anything else. There are days when all I want to do is sleep or try to zone out. Forgetting about what God has called me to do here on “Apostolic Talkin.” But Praise the Lord, I know how to get the keys to our freedom!
III. The Emotional Prison
All things considered, the Emotional prison is the worst of them all. This horrible prison is in the mind. This kind of prison comes in the form of mental retardation, paranoia, schizophrenia, etc. And if these weren’t bad enough, some poor loving souls bury deep-seated problems or painful memories with drug and alcohol abuse.
In the same fashion as those who suffer from physical pain and complications of their disability, you can also suffer in this emotional prison. Just as horrible as the physical disability is, this emotional prison can be more damaging. Our minds are fragile. They can break more easily than our bodies. The Emotional prison is the hardest to break free from. But the great news is, with the keys you can be free!
IV. The Key to Freedom
At the present time, you may be feeling hopeless or lost in despair. Feeling as if there is no way out of the prisons that you may be in. But the great news is, I am about to share with you what it means to be free. And then how to get yourself free with the keys. And finally, how to be made whole and healed.
Acts 22:28 The commander came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” And he said, “Yes.” The commander answered, “I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money.” And Paul said, “But I was actually born a citizen.” (KJV says free born)
Here we find the Apostle Paul is a prisoner in the Structural Prison. When Paul stood in front of the authorities the commander asked him if he was a Roman. Paul answered Yes! The commander replied, “I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money.” KJV put it that Paul replied, “I was free-born.”
What does this mean?
Paul is telling us that he was not a slave to any man! Saints, you too can have your freedom and be born-free. You do this through Jesus and His gift of Salvation. Jesus Name is how you are born free! Paul may have been a captive at the time, but he is free in the spirit. Because of his Roman birth, he was a slave to no man. But because of his encounter with Jesus, he was a slave to nothing of this world.
Even though Paul was a prisoner of the law of man in this world, he remained free. The burdens of sin, nor the temptations of the world, could make him a prisoner. All of us are born in sin. We are subject to the temptations and evils of this world. We will never be fully free until we are obedient to this Acts 2:38 message.
All things considered, our bodies, unless God intercedes, may never be free from our physical disabilities. That is for God alone to determine. However, that doesn’t mean that we can never be set free. Sin holds each of us prisoner, but Praise God for His Word. That is our first key, Truth!
John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
As a result of our sinful ways, we must look into His Word for the Truth of Salvation. Salvation is God’s way of providing His people deliverance from sin. God loves each of us. And He desires an intimate relationship with His creation. God wants to walk with us, talk with us, comfort us, and be with us through every experience of life. As we develop in our relationship with God, He transforms us by the infilling of the Holy Ghost. Nothing else compares to this ultimate experience of True Biblical Salvation. This is our second key, salvation.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
It is important to realize that salvation is free to all and not dependent upon works. But you must understand, there is more to it than just believing.
James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe and shudder.
Salvation cannot be earned by turning over a new leaf, denying ourselves, simply believing, or by any good works we might perform.
1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
It must be remembered, without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. Sin can not be remitted (forgiven) by time, by saying a simple prayer, by good works or living a decent life. Saints, you must understand that there can be no forgiveness without the shedding of the blood of Jesus. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice.
Hebrews 9:22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
True Biblical Salvation
True Biblical salvation begins with the horrible knowledge of sin. We all need to know that because of our sinful nature. Sin is unavoidable. We will act out in sinful behavior. It is in this perverse state we find ourselves spiritually dead toward God. My question for you today, are you willing to admit that you are a sinner? Now listen to me, admitting that you are a sinner is more than admitting imperfections and mistakes. When you sin, it is an offense against God! The first step in salvation is admitting to yourself that you are imperfect (a sinner) in the eyes of God. God has a standard and I have missed it. This is our third key, repentance.
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
Unless you recognize your sinful state and make a change, your soul will be eternally lost.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Repent–To feel pain, sorrow, or regret for something one has done or left undone. Especially, to experience such sorrow for sin as produces correction of life; be grieved over one’s past life, and seek forgiveness.
When we sin, we must feel regret for that sin. Then we must change our mind, and turn from sin to God.
Luke 13:3 … unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “ Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
As a result obedience to the Word of God, this is what God does for you. This my friends is the new birth – a miracle of spiritual life performed by the Holy Ghost through faith in the sacrificial, atoning blood of Jesus Christ. Once you are freed from the prison of sin, you become a new creature. If need be, God will help you deal with the price you must pay in man’s world for the crime you committed.
1 Samuel 12:22 For the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.
God loves You and will not forsake you. Saints, you must first seek Him, repent of your sins, be baptized in the Name of Jesus and then you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost! Through the love and power of the Holy Ghost, He will heal you of your brokenness, your hurt, your pain, and your anger. God’s Word is Truth, and He my friends, will not turn His back on you.
Once Saved, Always Saved?
A point often overlooked, YOU CAN TURN YOUR BACK ON GOD. There is a lie in major denominations that is teaching “Once Saved, Always Saved.” Here’s the Truth Saints, the choice is yours, Heaven or hell! You can not just cherry-pick one verse and make yourself a doctrine. You must be obedient to the complete Word of God.
It must be remembered God may heal the body, the mind, the spirit, or any combination thereof. But no matter if we understand or not, He heals us according to His will and purpose. God always wants to bless us and will always do what is best for each of us.
Chiefly, we humans tend to look to the flesh or worse, the world for proof of God’s grace and miracles. Where we should be looking, is to the Holy Ghost inside us. Our nasty flesh will return to the dust from whence it came. The very breath of life that God breathed into each of us will live forever. Heaven or hell, the choice is yours.
Why do I say this? Because, I am a handicapped man, and have been since I was 29. So far, God hasn’t healed my physical body. Yet, He’s forgiven me of my sins, as well as healing my broken and tattered heart. God has taught me that my body is nothing without the Holy Ghost! I am speaking a Word of Encouragement to someone right now. You don’t need a whole body to do what God has called you to do. You have your mind, now GO, TEACH ALL NATIONS…
GO, TEACH ALL NATIONS
To put it another way, let me speak about myself for a minute. Trust me when I say I understand the frustrations of being physically handicapped. There are plenty of things that I would love to do, but physically unable. Due to my daughter Gabrielle and her lot worse half, I am about to be a grandpa for the 3rd time. I would love to take them camping, fishing, and teach them how to be rascals to their parents. But until God heals me, I am stuck in this bed.
Despite my limitations, God freed my spirit and made it come truly alive with the Holy Ghost. Saints, I refuse to give up! I never, ever blame God for my life’s physical limitations. I thank Him for them.
Guessing the next thing you are going to say is… “but I am in a wheelchair!” Well so am I if I want to go anywhere! Then I can’t sit long, so I usually don’t go. You may say, “I suffered from horrendous abuse as a child or as a married person!” I truly am sorry, but learn how God can use those experiences to help others on their journey.
Romans 8:26-28 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
To Know God is to love God!
Following the lead of the Holy Ghost, we can discover the purpose He has for our lives. But we have to be willing to take the steps necessary for this to happen. Each of us is God’s special children. No matter the prison that you find yourself in, God has a special way to help you. It doesn’t matter physically, mentally, or something you have done. GOD WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ARE OBEDIENT TO HIS WORD! NEVER LET ANYONE, tell you that you will never be anything for the Kingdom of God!
Finally Saints, if you have been or are in prison at this time, please know that God Loves You too! And He will set you free if you will be obedient to His Word. He may not free your body, some of us have physical limitations, but He will free your spirit that has become a millstone around your neck.
Remember the three keys to Freedom are:
With these three keys you can unlock the doors to freedom forever. All of this can be found in God’s Word, the Bible.
