2 Roads Apostolic Salvation

2 Roads Apostolic Salvation

Powerhouse Radio Network

Have you ever started out thinking you were headed one place, and then wound up was someplace else? It happens more than you think. People start out heading one place and wind up someplace else. You have every intention of going to Birmingham AL, but you wind up in Birmingham England. It’s all a matter of getting on the right road. You see, the wrong road, in spite of good intentions, will never get you to the right place. The best of intentions won’t get you to the right destination if you take the wrong road. You have a choice of only 2 Roads! Or, as the old saying goes, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

The Wrong Road

l things considered, I can’t imagine someone starting on a trip to get lost. Nor have I ever met someone who started life saying “when I die, I want to go to hell!” I’ve met some pretty rough guys over the years, some very wicked dudes. But none of them, even in the worst of sins, started their lives intending to be that way.

In addition, never have I met a child who had dreams of becoming an alcoholic. Nor one wanting to spend their lives in prison. I’ve never even done a pre-marriage counseling session with a couple who planned on getting divorced. When we are young, we have nothing but the best of intentions for our lives. So how does little Johnny and little Susie grow up and spend their lives in prison? How do they wind up alcoholics and or divorce? It’s a matter of being on the wrong road.

Are you on the wrong road?

For this reason, if you’re on the wrong road, your destination may surprise you…unpleasantly. You can plan all you want to. Have the purest of motives for your life. If you’re on the wrong road, you won’t wind up in the right place. Church, it is very important to know how to get to where you want to go.

Generally speaking, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to be lost and go to hell. Underneath all the mocking bluster of, “Well that’s where all my friends are,” no sane human being would want to spend internity in hell. Everyone wants to be right, to be safe. Sadly, I do believe that there’s going to be a lot of people very surprised to close their eyes in sleep and open them in hell. How do people wind up lost, not knowing God? How do they wind up in hell? It’s all a matter of being on the wrong road.

Matthew 7:13-15 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Only 2 Roads

Jesus was saying that there are only two roads, the right one and the wrong one. Your eventual destination has nothing to do with your intentions. Jesus said, your destination is determined by the road that you choose. Church, you have only two choices.

Don’t take my word for it, the letters are in red, Jesus said that. “All roads don’t lead to Rome, Church!” “All faiths take you to God.” No…sorry. “We’re all going to the same place.” No, we’re most certainly not. Not because I say so, but because Jesus said so. Only two roads, the road to life, or the road to destruction. The choice is yours!

Matthew 7:13-15 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Here’s your sign!

Comedian Bill Engvall will not be holding a sign for you. “Here’s your sign!” “This way to destruction!” Or, “Hell, 20 miles!” How are you going to know if you’re on the right road? Well, I am so glad you asked! For starters, the road to destruction is like the autobahn, wide-open no resistance baby. Jesus said that the gate was wide, and the road was broad. So it is easiest to walk on. “Easy Peasy!” The highway to hell is a downhill slope, and that “ease” doesn’t mean “safety.”

As a result of your decision, you are on the wrong road. You never prayed about any decision. If a major decision was easy, you took it! Now you are on the wrong road! You “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” right through the front gates of hell. It’s not like you had to apply any effort. “This is the road of least resistance,” you thought! You never looked for the right road, you spent your entire life zooming along!

Not to mention everyone else is headed the same way you are. Jesus said that many traveled on the broad road to destruction, but only a few journeyed on the road to life. Friendly advice, there may be safety in numbers in a horror flick, but narrow is the way and few that find it! Come out from among them, who cares if you are surrounded by so many fascinating people. Too many people believe that the journey, and not the destination is what’s important. But nobody believes that in hell.

Mighty Wide Gate

It is important to realize you’re probably on the wrong road if you weren’t challenged to change. Jesus said that the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction. Carry all the sin baggage you want. But you are on the wrong road. Carry your load of sin yourself, haul the shame of your past down the board road. There’s plenty of room on the highway to hell, it’s a broad road. You don’t have to change one thing to travel to destruction!

There is no better word that describes the effects of the broad road of sin than the word ‘destruction’. Destruction in the original language of the Bible illustrates the destruction of vessels of clay when they were past their usefulness. Isn’t it time to let the Master Craftsman put your life back on the right road? There’s no better time to let Him break them, destroy them, and throw all of your sin luggage into the river of forgetfulness. Saints, the sin that you love so much because you keep carrying it, will use you until nothing is left! My friends, sin will break you into pieces and exploit you until there is nothing left. Once it has finished with you as your journey ends, it tells you that you are worthless and hopeless.

Positive Side of Things!

On the positive side, there is another way! Jesus said that there was a straight way! Strait meaning narrow, close, confined. Saints, it’s the righteous way, the road that leads to life! This narrow road isn’t always the most obvious. You’ll have to search for it! So many wolves telling the sheep that they’re on the right road. They say once on this road, you’ll always be safe. Church, the narrow road requires a decision to enter through the narrow gate at the end. It requires thought, it requires Holiness, it requires you to make the choice!

From time to time some souls find the narrow road by accident. Traveling the broad road toward destruction some horrible event shakes them to their very core. While in their pain and desperation, they find it! Another gate, just to the right! A gate with a narrow door! But it is on this narrow road they find Jesus! A promise of a better life than the one they’re living. Some may find this narrow road by accident, but they have to make the right choice!

Some souls find this narrow road by searching for a better way. They realize there must be more to life. Their spirit seems to be battling, looking from side to side, realizing they must go against the flow. There it is! The way to Life, the narrow gate!

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, or I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Fewer Distractions

The Greek word used for ‘come’ deute, is an imperative, that means, it’s urgent and commanding ‘Come now! This is not a simple request, Jesus’ command of come is urgent! It is not a simple or nice option, He is calling you to attention and action. Jesus’ command includes everyone. Those who believe as well as those who don’t! Those who are weary of life! The ones who are weighed down under the heavy burdens of life! There is not one person who does not come under one of these two categories. It includes people who are: aching, hurting, alone, under financial pressure, physical burden, emotional stress, experiencing sorrow or grief, oppressed, repressed, depressed, disillusioned, troubled by guilt, and sin.

Given these points, the narrow road has fewer distractions. Your companions on the broadway have to find their own way. Everyone must pass through the narrow gate by their own choice. This means that the opinions of others can’t keep you from eternal life. Moms, Dads, brothers, sisters, friends, extended family, co-workers, fellow students; there’s no one with the ability to turn you aside if you choose life.

In a moment, in the twinkling of the eye destruction could be at hand. Saints, if you are tired and broken, Jesus is commanding you to come. Has your life been broken into pieces? Are you tired of being exploited and squandered? Saints, Jesus is calling, I am begging you! If hell has never been your goal, you do have an option.

A long time ago, people asked the Apostle Peter the same thing. Do you know what he said?

Simple Truth

You need to understand this simple truth; the narrow way is a way of repentance. To enter into life you must repent of your sins. Repentance is being sorrowful for your sin, asking God’s forgiveness, and then turning your back on your sin to walk in a new pathway.

And the Bible says that after repenting, you need to be baptized in water in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Remission! Now there’s a fancy word that simply means ‘forgiveness’. He washes the guilt and shame of your sin from you and breaks the power of sin in your life. You can be free and you can be clean! You can live without guilt as well as shame! Your past doesn’t have to hold you!

Then He promises to fill you with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost…His Spirit comes to live in your heart and His Spirit will provide power to live! His Spirit will give you peace and His Spirit will give you joy! Take a look at the narrow gate! Go ahead! Enter in! And find what Jesus called abundant life!

At times, you will feel the fire of God burning brightly in your soul. At other times you may struggle to carry on. Nevertheless, if you will never quit, never stop, never leave, you will rebound every time. Your soul will be revived and your faith will return to you. Never allow discouragement or defeat to take you out. Earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. You will overcome, and you will win the prize.
